The 2016 5th Annual Garbage Bag Gala benefiting the Salvation Army took place on Saturday, July 16th at the Mercedes Benz Dealership on Hampton Avenue in St. Louis, MO. It was a fabulous evening of creative fashion from top local designers. In the spirit of the theme “Reclaim-Recover-Rejoice”, designers were given the challenge to create outfits from recycled materials in two categories: Formal / Casual Wear and Art-To-Wear Designs.
This year’s designs from 17 local artists did not disappoint! It was a tough competition but congratulations go out to Barbara Bultman, a designer we’ve had on our radar all year! Both of her creations were top notch including this LBD from the Art-To-Wear category made entirely of black straws and modeled by the lovely, Galina Angheluta (see below).

Congrats also go out to 2nd place winner, Alexis Cook, pictured above and escorting model Abigail Scherer. The design from the Art-To-Wear category was spectacular, fashioned mostly from duct tape! (photo by Gretchen Gannon)
This design from the Art-To-Wear category designed by 3rd place winner Jacob Stanley was another example of superb creativity! It was fashioned from reclaimed picture slides and modeled by Bree Chamberlain. (photo by Gretchen Gannon)
